ICWG General Manager | Mana Whakahaere Role

We’re seeking a hands-on, motivated General Manager who shares our deep commitment to delivering high-quality services for the wāhine we support. This is an opportunity to lead with heart and purpose—ensuring the continuation, sustainability, and growth of our impactful education-based programmes.

Mō tēnei mahi | About this job

This is a leadership and service delivery role. You’ll be responsible for both strategic and operational oversight, with a strong focus on the day-to-day delivery of ICWG’s services.

You’ll work closely with a small, passionate team of kaimahi to:

  • Lead and support the delivery of our educational programmes for wāhine.
  • Ensure strong operational systems, quality service provision and effective use of funding.
  • Provide leadership that is both strategic and client facing — engaged in the work, connected to the team and committed to programme outcomes for our clients.
  • Maintain robust, progressive relationships with funders, sector partners and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure financial, reporting, HR, Health & Safety, and risk management functions are well-executed.
  • Actively promote ICWG’s kaupapa in public forums and strengthen our visibility in the family violence prevention sector.
  • A key part of this role is sector advocacy and education — raising awareness of the issues affecting women impacted by violence, championing systemic change, and ensuring ICWG’s voice is heard in key policy and funding conversations. The General Manager represents the organisation in sector networks, builds partnerships to amplify collective impact, and contributes to a more just and equitable society.

Mōu | About you

To ensure successful outcomes for the wāhine we support, we are looking for you to bring the Leadership experience in the NGO or community sector, including experience managing service delivery or programme-based work.

  • A deep understanding of the dynamics of family violence and a commitment to supporting wāhine through trauma-informed, mana-enhancing approaches.
  • Proven ability to lead operational delivery — from managing funding contracts to supporting a team delivering front-line educational programmes.
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to build and maintain partnerships that support wāhine and their whānau.
  • Cultural competence and a commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and engaging respectfully with Māori and Pasifika communities.
  • Experience in business, HR, and financial oversight in a not-for-profit context.
  • A tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, business, or management (or equivalent experience). Additional training in trauma-informed practice, family violence, and kaupapa Māori approaches is advantageous. Relevant affiliations (e.g. SWRB, NZAC) are also beneficial.

Why Join ICWG?

  • Be part of a legacy – ICWG has a strong foundation and reputation in the family violence prevention sector. You’ll be stepping into an organisation with deep roots and a trusted presence in the community.
  • Lead with heart, hands, and purpose – This is not a desk-bound governance role. We're seeking a leader who is present, responsive, and connected to the needs of the wāhine we serve - someone who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on service leadership.
  • Make a real impact – Your mahi will directly support the delivery of life-changing education programmes for women, helping them to build safer futures and stronger whānau.
  • Drive meaningful change – This role calls for a transformative leader who can strengthen our operational backbone while holding fast to our mission. You'll guide a dedicated team and grow our reach to ensure every woman who needs us has access to our support.
  • Work with values – We are a kaupapa-driven organisation that places relationships, healing, and empowerment at the centre of all we do. You’ll join a small, passionate team committed to uplifting wāhine with dignity, mana, and care.
